End of an Era

Greetings BattleLore fans.

After four years in operation, I’m deciding to officially close down the BattleLoreMaster website. It seems all I’ve been doing for a while now is repeating information already on the Fantasy Flight Games site.

Back in the old days when the game was first released, there was a huge buzz from the original publisher, and a lot of excitement about the future of BattleLore. They were very supportive of this site, sent me new releases, and at one time there was even the possibility of getting the job of writing a background sourcebook for the game, and a bright future for the character of The Raven, a creation I’m still very proud of. Unfortunately, all that was not to be.

I’m sure FFG will continue to support the game and release the occasional expansion, but there’s really no longer any incentive for me to keep updating this site, let alone expand it.

For the moment, I’ll be keeping the forums open and the site how it is online, but unless there are some huge changes in the BattleLore world I’ll no longer be updating it.

Thanks for coming along for the ride BattleLore fans; it was fun to create this site and be part of the excitement around the original release. A special thankyou to those who contributed content. BattleLore is of course still a fantastic game and will always be a valued part of my game collection, and I look forward to seeing what FFG will do with it.

The Raven sends his regards as well. He is on some dark mission in a land of shadow, no doubt risking life and limb for pay. I’m sure we will hear rumors of his exploits again one day.

For all future information, see Fantasy Flight Games.

It is indeed a sad day for BattleLore. I’ve really missed the reports from The Raven as well as the future I thought there would be for BattleLore.

I’m still awaiting background on Uchronia and a campaign system, both of which the BattleLore system is crying for. It makes it even more difficult knowing that these were part of the plan from DoW but will not come to pass.

I’ve lost most of my optimism for BattleLore under FFG. The rules seem to be in a quagmire of change without a FAQ, no scenario editor. And Battles of Westeros is in a similar state.

    Sigh….

Goodbye Raven. You are missed already.

Great job over the years! A wonderful fan site.

I am sad to hear of what might have passed had BL stayed with the original publisher. I hope FFG are looking at some way of developing the world of the game, but I don’t have much hope for that.

To my mind the BattleSavvy rules are the best addition to the game beneath FFG, and I dearly hope they find a way of reinvigorating it – but I will always have a soft sense of sadness when I consider what DoW had envisioned for the game.

Your fan-site was a wonderful addition to the game and provided BL players a community to talk around and share around. I’m sad to read that the Raven is no more, and that the hope he carried for the future is now just darkness and silence, good luck on his mission! Would that we see him again. :)

    Cheers,
    Giles.

Thanks for the awesome website, it was always one of the first I routinely checked for any interesting articles or Raven updates. Sad to see it go, but I clearly understand. Best of luck to you in the all your future endevours.

Sorry, I won’t be passing on the page to anyone. But I will be keeping it online, as it is, for the forseeable future. Thanks for the kind words folks!

This is a great site. As a relatively new BL player it would be sad to have missed out. At least keep what you have here- as one doesn’t know what the future holds. Perhaps a resurgence will take place.

I’m a brand new player to the game and just found this site. Thanks for all the work you did over the years. I’ll certainly be taking a lot from this site as we start to play our games. Thank you! Best to you on future endeavors.

Well as heartbreaking as this is it wasn’t unpredictable with the significant decline of interest in the game since the departure from DoW. I lost interest in the game myself about a year ago and shortly thereafter stopped visiting this site as a result. Recently though I decided to break out the game again, finish painting the pieces and in that process came out with… well not a COMPLETELY new set of rules but I’ve greatly changed the game of play so that the game takes no setup at all and you simply open the board and start playing. I was going to write out the rules and then send them here to you in hopes that others would become inspired to break out of the box and use the amazing potential battlelore has and instead of relying on Fantasy Flight to fix the game, fix it ourselves. There is so much great material in the battlelore beginning set that why not just make your own game that you don’t have to rely on a rulebook or website to determine how much fun you’re having. Happy Trails Battlelore Master, you were the one in the beginning that convinced me to buy this game through your enthusiasm.
