Official Word: Dwarves on the war path … seen from the rear
OK, maybe they could have come up with a better title to this post! The official blog shows the back of the box for the upcoming Scottish Wars: A Dwarven Perspective expansion, revealing the figures to be 6 Cattle Riders, 8 Clan Chiefs, 12 Human Mounted Knights and 16—count ‘em, 16—Spear Bearers.
If you click the image to see a larger one, you may recognise the writing on the back—yes, it’s the first published dispatch from The Raven!

Well done for the text but then i am worried that DOW is using material from other sources to promote their game……with ths rate, we will never see a campaign system or more background….unless we write it :)

You’re making a few assumptions there ZiNOS (not to mention putting a very negative spin on things) - this didn’t happen out of the blue without my knowledge, and I’m a professional designer and writer as well as a fan. I can assure you that DoW quality control is very high and they have many things in the pipeline. The problem is, everybody wants everything *right now* and these things take time. I think it’s safe to say that BattleLore has just begun and there will be lots, lots more in the future. Be patient! ;)

First of all, i have seen your job on other games and on your other sites and i know that you are a professional. However, allow me to disagree about the quality control of DOW, since they are producing a lot of things in very small time.
Anyway, i didn’t mean to offend you in any way, sorry if this is what you understood from my post.

Not offended, I just don’t quite understand what problem you see with what is coming out for BattleLore. Sure, there’s not a campaign system or more background yet, but plenty of other good things have been released. All in good time …
You don’t think DoW products are high quality?

DoW are an exceptional games company - M44 / TTR etc and hardly a problem - they listen to the fans and allow us free speach etc on the forums.
However, maybe what Zinos is getting at for BattleLore is :-
1 - The Dice issue
2 - Too many bent / broken figures in the initial release. (I had 2 broken and had to boil most of them in 2 boxes)
3 - Wrong banners included
4 - The wrong backs printed on cards.
By themselves, not big issues - added up together - probably too many for one game in less than a year. They haven’t spoilt the game for me - but they have lowered, ever so slightly, the expectations and view I have of DoW. So, 4 things in less than a year - that probably should have been picked up by quality control.
In their defense - the customer support and willingness to right these wrongs is superb. The online support for the game is as good as any out there and DoW’s interection with their customers is 2nd to none.
I am very pro DoW - I am just saying that even to me, I have an awareness of the possible lack or appearance thereof, of quality control relating to this game.

I’d hate to run a games company - you’re damned if you do and your damned if you don’t! Put out a complex product and a lot of expansions in quick time = risk quality issues that probably cost a fortune to rectify. Don’t put out a lot of product in quick time = public griping that they’re not getting what they want fast enough.
Must be hell! ;)

Yep - make a mistake 1% of the time and be damned by the screaming masses ;)
I did say ‘appearance of’ quality control. We all know it’s there - it just missed a few things. And DoW set the bar so high with every other game they have released.
Still hasn’t stopped me buying 2 base sets and one of everything so far - and to come !

Ditto!

Actually i am pro DOW also and i really don’t care so much about the quality problems (they have sent me a replacement for the dice for crying out loud!).
What i was trying to say is that probably Battlelore is running really fast now, but maybe there are not so many people working on the project or something. And they continue to produce more and more and this of course hurts our wallets.
They have also made some bad desicions IMO (two different boxes for the Goblins, two different boxes for the Dwarves, not so many new “official” scenarios, a bit on the expensive side etc.) but still i will buy whatever they produce.
I really hope that the next expansions will be really big boxed sets so that we will get more bang from our money. This is not a minatires game that each player buys his own minis. In this game one player buys it all.
Maybe i was a little bitter but frankly, the release schedule of Battlelore and the aforementioned “mistakes” have spoiled a little the brew for me.
On the other hand, i may be just different from the usual customer of Dow, so that’s why i was bothered in the first place :).
Have a nice day everybody…..
